WSJT-X 2.7 introduces several new features and improvements, including the new QMAP program, advanced Q65 Pileup and SuperFox modes, an automatic Hamlib update option, the Message System, and other enhancements and bug fixes.
WSJT-X version 2.7 now is available in general release and can be downloaded from the sourceforge.net repository.
Key Features:
1. QMAP and Q65 Pileup Mode:
QMAP is a receive-only tool derived from MAP65, providing single-polarization capabilities for 60-second Q65 submodes and their corresponding 30-second submodes.
Ideal for Earth-Moon-Earth (EME) communication, QMAP allows monitoring of all traffic within a 90 kHz sub-band while operating QSOs.
Q65 Pileup mode assists DX operators managing multiple weak callers simultaneously, especially during 6-meter EME DXpeditions.
More details: QMAP Quick-Start Guide.
2. SuperFox Mode:
An advanced version of Fox-and-Hound mode using a new constant-envelope waveform for Fox transmissions.
Supports simultaneous communication with up to 9 Hounds without signal loss, improving efficiency by +10 dB over the older 5-slot Fox-and-Hound.
More details: SuperFox User Guide.
3. Message System:
Enables the exchange of structured text messages for better coordination during QSOs, such as requesting a QSY.
Provides preset messages for quick communication.
Full documentation available in Section 8 of the WSJT-X User Guide.
4. Update Hamlib Button:
Located on the File | Settings | Radio tab, this feature allows automatic download and installation of the latest Hamlib version.
Supports easy rollback with clear display of active and backup versions.
Additional Enhancements:
Improved PSK Reporter Spotting: Redundant spots are reduced, and new locations are updated automatically during portable operations.
Enhanced Fox Mode: Improved handling of callsign queues and statistical QSO rate display in the Fox Log window.
CTY.DAT Update Button: Located on the File | Settings | Colors tab, enabling one-click updates.
FT Roundup Protocol: Supports static 4-digit number exchanges, enhancing flexibility for various contest types.
Mode Switching Improvements: Saves and restores submode status and checkbox settings. Right-click toggles advanced submodes (e.g., Q65 Pileup and JT9 modes).
Message Averaging: Now available only when VHF features are enabled. Labels in the main window adjust dynamically when averaging is active.
About WSJT-X
WSJT-X is a computer program designed to facilitate basic amateur radio communication using very weak signals. The first four letters in the program name stand for “Weak Signal communication by K1JT,” while the suffix “-X” indicates that WSJT-X started as an extended branch of an earlier program, WSJT, first released in 2001. Bill Somerville, G4WJS, Steve Franke, K9AN, and Nico Palermo, IV3NWV, have been major contributors to development of WSJT-X since 2013, 2015, and 2016, respectively.
WSJT-X version 2.7.0 can be easily downloaded from the sourceforce.net web site.
